Many travelers and bloggers would sometimes go back to the places they had visited before. Many people ask “Why? You’ve already been there?” But there is nothing wrong with revisiting places you have been before. As to the reason why people do this, you will get different reasons from them. Here are some of the reason you might hear from us frequent travelers.
I didn’t stay there for very long the first time – this is the reason why I went back to Los Cabos. The first time I visited Los Cabos, I was only there for six hours not giving me enough time to do anything and see the city. The second time around, I stayed for four days and I was able to see more of the place more than I expected.
There were so many places to see – we Americans only get about two weeks vacation time in a year from work. Some people will use this time for other reasons of a personal nature – family, Christmas, etc. The rest will be used for traveling to places. If you use this time to travel to place like Paris for example, you will not have enough time to see everything even if you stay for two weeks. This is why people go back to places like Paris time and time again.
You want to see the place in a different season – My first time to Marrakesh was in August during the heat of the summer brings sunburn to many people. I want to go back to Marrakesh but perhaps during a different time of year when its not too hot or too cold. Does Marrakesh ever get cold?
You want see the place for yourself – perhaps you had been there before but with a travel companion or with other people and you needed to compromise as to where to go and what to do. You want to see the place that interest you the second time around. You want to do it on your own time, your pace and your own way.
The places itself had gone to a historical transition – I once had a friend who traveled to Germany during the Cold War and he can only travel around West Berlin. The next time, he return to Berlin was five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The landscapes and politics of the city is completely different from the first time he was there. He was able to see the other half of the city and the rest of the country.
History had happened in the city – a perfect example of this is Barcelona. Before the 1992 Olympics, nobody wanted to go to Barcelona. However, after a little sprucing up and reconstruction in many parts of the city, most travelers would now flock to this city and some find it from more exciting than Madrid. A little makeover did a lot of good to the city and its tourist industry.
You go to this city as a starting point to explore the rest of the country – some of the most visited places in the world are located outside the city limits. You can either take a train or drive see these places. So you go back to the same city you had been of before using it as a home base to explore the rest of the country.
Last but not least, you have friends living in the city – some of us have friends who had moved and lived in some of the most excited places in the world. Why not visit them to reconnect our friendships.
Regardless of the reason, I always think it is a good idea to revisit some of our favorite places in the world. There are some people who do just that. It is not because they want to see these places over and over again. It is perhaps because it is a place where they feel comfortable and calm, relax and perhaps rejuvenated. We always go to places where we can be ourselves and let loose. Traveling is good for everyone. Traveling to your favorite places is even better.
