It’s summer and it’s time to hit the beach! To some of us, summer is the best time of year because, well – no school, more daylight and the best time to travel to either chill, start a new adventure or discover a new place to explore. But to those people who consider themselves sun worshippers, one thing they consider a mandatory thing to do in the summer is head to a sandy beach.
Summer is also the time of the year when we experience the warmest weather that could sometimes break the thermometer. This usually means we need to take extra precaution in protecting ourselves from the harmful rays of the sun and other dangers that lurks around Mother Nature during the summer. I will be making a couple of trips to the beach myself this summer so I am considering bringing a few things of my own. Here are some beach essentials I recommend you bring with you.
Sunscreen – no joke, no matter your age you must wear or have sunscreen handy when going outdoors during the summer whether going to the beach or hiking out in the wood. We should always have a bottle of at least SPF30 with us in the our bags – one for the face and another for the body.
Aloe Vera gel – in case you got too much sun and your skin begins turning red, it’s good to have some Aloe Vera gel handy for instant relief. It cools burned and irritates skin instantly. Some people believe that petroleum jelly can also help with burned and irritated skin.
Facial mist – another available item to cool yourself down while under the sun.
Wide rim hat – whether it’s a bucket hat or a straw hat, we should wear one when going outdoors. Sometimes people would wear a baseball cap but I find this sometimes just won’t do. I always have one in the car for longer trips.
Bottled Water – or a water bottle to keep yourself from dehydration as much as possible. Some public beaches does not allow vendors selling food items so be sure to bring one with you.
Beach Towel – not just for sunbathing (which I do not recommend) but also for drying yourself off if you fancy taking a dip into the water. A beach towel is also great for picnics at the beach.
Sunglasses – protect your eyesight from the sun by bringing a pair of sunglasses. Those with large frames are great for hiding your eyes from people watching.
A large waterproof beach bag – how else are you going to take all these stuff to the beach? I prefer something large that would not take in any water. Ideally, something the size of a large tote for all the items you like to bring.
Reading materials – there are a lot of good books out there available both in print and ebook. Unless you’re a people watcher, you can use some preoccupation while enjoying the summer weather. Magazines are great, too. This is a good time to catch up on those books you’ve heard about but haven’t read.
A good playlist – love music? I find a good playlist essential for people watching. Don’t forget to bring you earphones as not all around you would appreciate listening to the same thing.
Some food – why not have a picnic at the beach with some good friends and good food. Just be sure that food is allowed at the beach you are going to. Some beaches prohibits food in an effort to keep it clean.
When I was younger, I enjoyed summer and could not wait for it to get here soon enough. But summer can be ruined for a lot of people if you don’t take extra precaution form the harsh weather if often brings. You always want to have food summer memories to talk about in the future.
