After more than two years of writing, the book is here – Travel with Rizal in Germany. I like to call it a historical travel book because it follows the travels of the Philippine national hero, a man called Dr. Jose P. Rizal. This book presents his travels in Germany from early 1886 to mid-1887 some parts of which was accompanied by another Filipino expatriate Maximo Viola, another medical student from a university in Barcelona. Rizal’s journey in Germany starts in Strasbourg which was then within the borders of Germany and concludes in Stuttgart. Rizal then continued his journey through other countries in Europe.
If you are a student of Rizal, this is a great resource for you. It offers new information about his travels in Germany that was once inaccessible to historians and biographers from previous generations because of the Cold War. With the help of the people from various state and city archives and tourist information offices in Germany, we are now learning new things about the places Rizal once lived and visited.
