It had been almost a year since I started this blog and it had been an interesting ride so far. When I started this blog in January, it was all about sharing by way of online chronicling, my past journeys from previous years including photos from those memories. There was also the naive idea of readers learning from my experience motivating them to travel.
Another main reason why I created this blog is to motivate me to go out there at the same time learn about my hometown and its surrounding area apart from faraway places. I have been meaning to see these places for a while now and having this blog pushes me to do so. In the process, I have collected photos of the places I’ve been far more than one could keep. Too many in fact. Sometimes visual memories like photos are fun to go back to, and I later learn these memories became my inspiration for a post or two.
When I started this blog, I was only posting once a week. Then I started searching and found other travel bloggers online most of which had been traveling, blogging and writing longer than I have. I have read about the places have seen, the photos they have taken and read about the things they have done for the success of their own blog. They serve as inspiration to me especially when it comes to the idea of traveling full-time and perhaps, if I do this right making a living out of it. However, they did warn us all that it’s not going to be easy and in the beginning it’s not going to be cheap. So we must remind ourselves every person who wants to do this full-time would have to start somewhere.
There were some unfortunate events that happened to me in 2016. In mid-August, I lost my corporate job working for the travel department for a major high-tech company in Silicon Valley. I was sad to leave the company but somehow I saw it as a blessing in disguise. Since then I had ventured to several different places near and far for the blog. I had traveled in different places in a span of four months than I had in 2015 while having a full-time job. Some of these places are those I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. With this, do you think it was a good thing I lost my job?
In the last two years, I also had been working on a book. It is something that involves my heritage and the history of my home country. I was hoping to finish it by the end of this year but it looks I will not be able to finish and publish this by year end. For a book like mine that involves a lot of research and travel, it will require a lot of time for it to be done right, and I want to do it right.
For 2017, I only have four goals I hope to achieve – finish the book, travel more, blog more and lastly get published as a travel writer in a print or online magazine. I will give myself the entire year of 2017 to fulfill these which I think is realistic enough for me. For the following year, I also want to continue connecting with people, fellow bloggers and writers and hopefully begin connections with more readers. I started doing so this year and I’m very glad I did. It’s good to know I’m not alone in my endeavors, and I’m grateful for the things I have learned from fellow bloggers and travelers out there.
In short, I would like to continue Chasing Journeys for at least another year. I had enjoyed all my journeys for the past couple of years and I am hoping to do more in the future. I’m also hoping you would all continue to join me in my future journeys maybe even inviting some friends to read along. My journey has not ended yet and I hope it never will.
