For my trip to London this year, I wanted to do afternoon tea. This is after all quintessentially British, something we don’t often see or do in American. I have done the traditional afternoon tea in Cambridge before, so for this trip I wanted to do afternoon tea in a different way. When I did my research, I found the Pret-a-Portea at the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge. This is the “different” I was looking for and it is exactly how I wanted it. The Pret-a-Portea Afternoon Tea was held at The Collins Room of the Berkeley Hotel in London.
The afternoon tea offered at the Berkeley Hotel is called the Pret-a-Portea. It’s afternoon tea with a very sophisticated and fashionable twist. There is a set menu with a choice of champagne to start and lovely tea sandwiches made of salmon, beef, chicken, egg salad and other savory canapés not like what your grandmother makes. The menu also includes loose leaf black, green, herbal and sweet teas such as sweet hibiscus tea. For this first “course” I selected the Ceylon and Rose tea from the menu. I highly recommend both of them.
For the piece de resistance, a selection of cookies and other lovely sugary treats served on a cake stand all inspired by the creation of various world-renowned fashion designer. These inspiration happens to be people with the likes of Dolce and Gabbana, Jason Wu, Lanvin, Burberry, Manolo Blahnik, Nicholas Kirkwood, Jimmy Choo, Moschino, Simone Rocha, Charlotte Olympia. For someone who enjoys pastries like these, it was quite a treat. I sometimes found it very hard not to eat these pastries because they were made so gorgeously.
I booked this afternoon tea at The Berkeley Hotel the day I arrived in London. Since I am arriving in London in the morning after a long flight I thought I can start my adventures to London with something really good yet very relaxing and calm. The Collins Room at The Berkeley Hotel did not disappoint.
It was a very good start the my first day of my return to London this way. It was the best two hours I’ve spent in London – in a relax and calm atmosphere with such sophisticated tea and treats after a long nonstop flight from San Francisco. It was definitely worth every bit of it, and I recommend everyone to try it.
