For my birthday this year, I’ve decided to go away again but this time stayed very close to home. I’ve been to Napa before but I particularly did not enjoy the wine-tasting from one tasting room to another. Not to mention, you don’t want to drink and drive. So I decided to see Napa from a different point of view. Last year, for my birthday I went to Salzburg – somewhere I’ve never been. For my birthday this year, I decided to do something I have never done before as I always try to. On the very day, I went on a hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley.
Days prior, I was very excited. Napa is known for scenic and gorgeous landscapes but we only see this on land. Napa is probably far more beautiful and majestic from the air at 10,000 feet, or at least that’s how it felt. With my new toy, a Nikon D3200 DLSR, I took photographs of Napa from the air. Let me show you what I saw.
Our lift off location seen above is just next to a vineyard.
Then we see a view of what may have been a gold course. On view are other balloon in flight.
On the other side of the balloon is the road and some houses.
As we go higher, we see other landscapes of Napa including what might be part of a gold course and the hills.
Further on, we find a small vineyard Napa is famous for . . . and more hills.
Next to some vineyards are residential buildings where the locals of Napa lives.
More vineyards where the best wines in the world comes from covers the landscape.
The hills of Napa and the small dot below it is a hot air balloon about to land.
The pilot never said “don’t look down.” Here is the same balloon close to landing.
I wonder was these pools of water are for? Are they for the vines?
I love images like this, a vintage car driving by next to the vineyards.
An hour later, we are getting ready to land. I wish we can stay up in the air longer. Some balloons are about to hit the ground.
Other balloons have landed. . .
The balloon in the shadows is our balloon getting ready to land.
That day, we landed on a dog park. After getting off the basket with several others, our balloon is now deflating. The ride is over. 🙁 So soon.
The flight had to be done early in the morning between it presents the best winds for flight. However, the sun is shining sharply that some of the photos came out too bright. It only lasted a little more than an hour, but the weather was good and the air was crisp. Riding a hot air balloon is not cheap however judging from my experience it was worth every penny.
But the main thing about this adventure was it was my birthday and true to form, I kept my promise to myself of doing something I have never done before. I could not wish for anything more on my birthday. One more check mark on the bucket list.
By the way:
For those of you who wants to try this, there are many hot air balloon ride companies out there. The one I booked for this ride is called Balloons Above the Valley. Their website is www.balloonrides.com . Have fun!Google+
